I Was That Person...

Growing up, during my school years, before I walked out of the door in the morning to head to class, my mother would always remind me where certain documents were should anything happen to her or my Dad.  I was that person.

Thirty-five years ago my sister’s two best friends suffered from a horrible disease called Lupus.  She did all she could to research causes, symptoms, natural healing and medicine.  Back then we didn’t have the Internet, we had encyclopedia’s and medical books.  A year after her friends transitioned home to heaven, my beautiful sister became ill and we didn’t know what was the cause or what it was.

It took doctors seven years to diagnose her with Lupus.  It devastated her, however she learned how to manage it.  Fast forwarding 35 years, to 2014.  My sister’s lupus stage was at it’s highest level.

One of the most important people of my life was gone.  She was a 30 year survivor!!! My Hero.  We talked on the phone daily having our coffee, planning trips and cruises and shopping sprees.  We talked about our grandchildren and the plans we had for them.  We would also spend time on the phone talking about a very important issue.  What my instructions were, should she pass.  She made sure we discussed this every day were on that morning phone call. I was that person, again.

She made sure I knew where her life insurance documents were.  She gave me specific instructions on how to handle her final arrangements, how much to spend and to with whom to share.  This was our discussion every day first and foremost and then we moved on to more cheerful topics.

I received a call one night from her Fiancee telling me that my best friend and sister was no longer with us.   During the time of planning her arrangements we discovered that she didn’t have as much final expense coverage as she thought.  We were short a few thousand simply because according to her insurance company, she didn’t reach the threshold of 2 years for being covered, which was the requirement to receive full coverage.  We only received the total of payments she made toward her policy (6 months of payments).

Yes in previous years she obtained an 80,000 policy, however there came a time when the Lupus flare ups and pain became unbearable she could no longer work.  She could not afford to maintain her payments for this type of policy.  She discontinued her policy and purchased a lower cost policy.

I loved her so much and I wanted to respect her final wishes.  I began to worry. I wasn’t sure with 2 of children in college if we were financially prepared to handle this.  Thank God for the support of my husband we were able to cover the funeral expenses.  I share this story because I care about you and your families.

Take the necessary measures to prevent this kind of worry.  Not everyone has thousands of dollars laying around to pay for funeral expenses.  Your family will have enough on their mind just losing you. Prevent doubt, confusion and unnecessary worry and expenses now.   Here are a few tips with the things I learned from this experience.  My sister did everything right, except #1.

  • If you have a life insurance policy, review with an agent to figure out any holes in your policy, including death benefit payout timing.
  • Yes, assign someone you trust that will follow your final wishes and be sure they are aware of Step #1.
  • Choose someone that will be emotionally stable to handle this kind of business on your behalf.
  • Have ongoing communication with this person; changes, plans, names and contact information of others you may be having a discussion with about your final expenses.

My husband was led to go into the insurance business to help prevent others from experiencing this type of worry.  Let me be a bit frank, funerals cost!  I am a woman of Faith and I believe in leaving an inheritance. (Proverbs 13:22)

What my plan covers is all of the above steps in which I have a final wish that lists all of my concerns for my family to follow.  At the time of enrollment, I was same day qualified and covered.  It was a simple application, with just a few questions and now I don’t have to worry about my family.

Do You Have Boundaries?

Setting boundaries with clients teaches people how to treat you.

So, what does that mean?
It means that it’s up to you to allow or not allow certain treatment. It also means that you have to get clear about how you want to be treated. It means that you have to take responsibility for writing your own Owner’s Manual, and hold yourself accountable for living by it.

In other words?
Stop blaming your clients (or anyone!) for not knowing your rules! Especially if you never enforce them yourself!

Turn Each Item Into a Business Standard.
Go through each item and turn it around. Make it a new standardCreate a company policy.
When you first got started in your business, it may have been fine to answer a few calls after hours. Hey, no big deal. You only had one or two clients. And you were excited to have them! Hey!

You Forgot
The problem is that, as you grew, you forgot to go back and create some standards or boundaries with demanding clients. And you can no longer handle the chaos.
So, if you don’t want clients to call you at midnight, then what time do you stop taking calls? If you don’t want to fly coach, then can you make it a company standard that you always fly first class?

Put Your Best Face Forward!

The seasons are changing! The holidays are coming! When your skins needs to look flawless it’s all about the base.  Especially going into the fall and your summer tone is transitioning.

Changing seasons do affect your foundation.  You will need a couple of skin tone colors to match your skin during the transitioning stage.

When the weather cools—and our skin begs for something creamier—there’s nothing like a supple foundation that simultaneously covers any imperfections and dry patches and fading summer tans.

Your skin can also have different needs in the summer versus winter: your skin may be oily in the summer and dry during the winter.

So, be open to the idea that you might need a different foundation (shade and/or formula) for each season!

Here are my favorites

Mineral makeup is recommended by dermatologists and aestheticians for all skin types…*Dry   *Normal   *Oily   *Combination.

Time to Reflect

Reflection can be valuable in budgets and profit and loss forecasts, but there’s another kind of reflection that helps to guide and inform our identities and our mission.

Looking back on the past 18 months, it has been a season of transition, challenges and growth.

Know your worth

Just because my circumstances were challenging, doesn’t mean I wasn’t worth more or deserved better.

We all have value. If you’re in a bad situation, you deserve better. It’s OK to want more and to strive for it.

Don’t be a victim

It’s easy to use the things that happen to us as an excuse for lowering our own expectations of ourselves or as an excuse to think that the world is against us.

Break out of that victim mindset. Be a survivor instead, and know that you can accomplish anything.

Sweat the small stuff
Counterintuitive? Maybe.

But I’ve found sweating the small stuff -- paying attention to the details -- to be valuable and impactful. The Bible says in Luke 16:10, "He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much."  My prayer is always, "God I am going to put my whole heart into this small detail so that you can enlarge my territory and bless me BIG!  Yes sweat the small stuff.

Let's not lose focus on our intentions.

Taking time to reflect back on the road my family and I have taken thus, and to appreciate every bump for the lessons they teach, can be incredibly helpful. Applying those lessons in ways that help us push forward, to progress in our goals, and live life to the fullest.

Time to Reflect
So now is time to Reflect  on the last 9 month as an entrepreneur and reflect on  the things moving forward for 2018.  Before you move on to fill your year-end quarterly worksheet, take the time to do the following:
  • Did you deepen your relationship with God?
  • Reflect on your personal and professional successes....Celebrate!!!!
  • Reflect on your mistakes
  • Reflect on the things that were challenging, how did you overcome?  What steps did you take to overcome:
  • Reflect on the  goals (things) that weren't so successful....is it time to move on from those things, maybe revisit a plan?  Create a whole new project or goal (personal or professional) or product or service?
  • Reflect on the changes that occurred within you.   Do you like the new you?  What did you Discover about yourself that you want to celebrate or change? Did you live a more healthier lifestyle?
  • Did you support those that you love?  Did you shop small?  Community involvement?
  • Push yourself and challenge yourself to create new and bigger goals for 2018
  • Plan to attend a personal or professional development online or live event.  Begin to fill your 2018 1st quarter calendar NOW.  Create a new reading list, register for a few ecourses, perhaps the "Position Your Brand" e-course bootcamp, for both a personal and professional online experience, Click here for details

Get Protected!

If you have a credit report there’s a good chance that you’re one of the 143 million American consumers whose sensitive personal information was exposed in a data breach at Equifax, one of the nation’s three major credit reporting agencies.

Here are the facts, according to Equifax. The breach lasted from mid-May through July. The hackers accessed people’s names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some instances, driver’s license numbers.

They also stole credit card numbers for about 209,000 people and dispute documents with personal identifying information for about 182,000 people. And they grabbed personal information of people in the UK and Canada too.

Here are some other steps to take to help protect yourself after a data breach: Read full article here

Tip:
Check your online bank statements and credit card statements on a regular basis, ideally weekly," said Matt Schulz, senior industry analyst at CreditCards.com. "Bad guys can be very patient, so it's important to keep an eye out long after this story fades from the headlines."

Thursday

I Conquered my Fear!

I recently participated in a 26 Day A-Z Brand visibility video challenge.  Being an introvert, I actually freaked out in sweats when it was actually time to produce and post my very first video.

However it was on my short term goal list to start video branding this year.  I realized the most important thing for me was to jump right in and take action on this goal.  I am happy to announce I completed all 26 days and now there is no fear of producing videos for my brand.

Taking immediate action on your goals provides you with the power to overcome fear, doubt, uncertainty of outcome, and perfection.  Excellence is better than perfection.  My problem was that I wanted my video to be perfect.  I wanted my verbal content to be perfect.  Perfect got in the way of me doing this sooner.

Step 1. Write down your goals. Step 2. Simplify.  Step 3. Pray.  Step 4. Take Action

Well the next step was to share my videos outside this private group.  More sweating!  This week I decided that I would and could do this.  When I looked at my goal list, I realized that I have since then added more goals and it pushed my goal to share my videos to the bottom.

I also realized that my goal list was super long and I had no breakdown actions.  This caused me to not focus on my immediate goal, sharing my videos, aaah.

It is okay to dream BIG and have an enormous list of goals.  It's better to breakdown that list into short term and long term goals then break it down a little more by writing down an action plan next to each goal.

I decided to write down three goals per month and take action on these goals. I not only accomplished my goals, but I was in control of my life!!!  Do not be distracted my the length of your goals list.

If you are an emerging entrepreneur or even a seasoned entrepreneur and things may seem a little unsettling or overwhelming because of the many things you want to do, the new Write The Vision, Make It Plain, 90-Day Goals Planner and Workbook is perfect.  I designed it to assist you in simplifying your goal list into three per month.  This system is perfect and having a system to conquer your goal list is awesome.

Happy Planning!
